Abstract

ABSTRACT - Syria’s millenary history and the mosaic of peoples and religious beliefs that it comprises demonstrate the existence of a shared Mediterrenean civilization, plural, tolerant and creative. The post-war history of the Middle East has nevertheless isolated this ancient cross-roads among the Arab hardliners. New negocial possibilities could however call upon Syria to restore its natural role of diplomatic mediator.
