Inflazione ed indicizzazione delle retribuzioni in Italia. (Inflation and wage indexation in Italy)

Abstract

Il presente documento ripercorre l'evoluzione dell'inflazione in Italia per tutto il periodo seguente la seconda guerra mondiale , con particolare attenzione per la sua relazione con il costo del lavoro , produttività e prezzi all'importazione . Poiché il meccanismo di scala mobile opera a piena potenza per tutto il periodo degli anni Settanta , e in particolare nella seconda metà del decennio , questo periodo viene analizzato in maggior dettaglio . Le conclusioni indicano che la scala mobile ha svolto un ruolo importante sulle pressioni inflazionistiche in quel periodo.

The present paper traces the development in inflation in Italy throughout the period following WWII, with particular emphasis on its relation to labour costs, productivity and import prices. Since the sliding scale mechanism has been operating at full power during the whole of the seventies, and especially in the second half of the decade, owning to the increased frequency of both domestic and imported destabilising pressures, this period is analysed in greater detail. The conclusions indicate that the sliding scale has played an important role in aggravating inflationary pressures during that period.
