Abstract

Anche se l'Arabia Saudita ha accumulato enormi riserve di valuta estera , il suo sistema finanziario è ancora primitivo sotto molti aspetti. Ciò ha portato  gran parte di queste riserve ad essere re-investite in centri finanziari in tutto il mondo. Molti dei principi che regolano il funzionamento del sistema bancario saudita non sono cambiate in 25 anni dal momento in cui il paese era economicamente sottosviluppato. L'autore ripercorre lo sviluppo della moneta e sistema bancario del paese dopo l'introduzione di una moneta nazionale nel 1925.

Although Saudi Arabia has accumulated massive reserves of foreign currency, its financial system is still primitive in many respects. This has resulted in much of these reserves being re-invested in financial centres around the world. Many of the principles which govern the operation of the Saudi banking system have not changed in 25 years from the time when the country was economically underdeveloped. The author traces the development of the country's money and banking system since the introduction of a national currency in 1925.
