Anni Trenta e anni Ottanta paralleli e differenze (The 1930s and 1980s: Parallels and Differences)

Abstract

Dopo la seconda guerra mondiale ci sono stati il regolamento degli aiuti concessi sulla base del Lend-lease, l’istituzione del sistema di Bretton Woods, il prestito alla Gran Bretagna e, infine, il piano Marshall.
Riflettendo su quel periodo ho proposto una mia legge delle politiche economiche alternative: dopo un lungo dibattito su quale alternativa scegliere – per esempio, dazi doganali oppure svalutazione del cambio in Inghilterra nel 1930 e 1931, istituzioni internazionali come a Bretton Woods oppure approccio delle valute chiave del prestito alla Gran Bretagna – si finisce spesso per adottare entrambe le alternative (il che rovina la possibilità di usare l’esperimento come “test” di teorie economiche). Non che abbia l’intenzione di esaltare il pragmatismo puro che non poggia su alcuna teoria. Tuttavia, negli ultimi anni, ho perso parte della mia ammirazione, se mai ne ho avuta molta, per un approccio ideologico o dogmatico ai problemi economici. 

After the Second World War there were the regulation of the aid granted under the Lend-Lease, the establishment of the Bretton Woods system, the loan to Britain and, finally, the Marshall Plan.
Looking back on that period, I proposed an alternative economic policies of my law: after a long debate as to which alternative to choose - for example, customs duties or devaluation of the currency in England in 1930 and 1931, international institutions such as the Bretton Woods approach or key currency of the loan to Britain - it often ends up taking both alternatives (which ruin the possibility of using the experiment as "test" of economic theories). Not that I intend to bring out the pure pragmatism that is not based on any theory. However, in recent years, I lost part of my admiration, if I ever had much, for ideological or dogmatic approach to economic problems.
