The paper addresses the question of whether it might be more feasible to replace the dollar-reserve system by a gold-reserve system than it was to replace it by an SDR system. The author first outlines some salient features of the present monetary status of gold. A brief summary of the characteristics that are generally assumed to be necessary for a reserve system is then provided. How a gold-reserve system would need to be designed in order to satisfy such requirements is then considered. In addition, the feasibility of introducing such a system is assessed. Finally, some implication of the analysis are provided.
