In Italy the role of Households in the formation of the national net savings is considerable and is characterised by a high propensity to accumulate financial assets in proportion to the available income. In recent years, it is the only sector to show positive financial balances on a scale and of a dynamism which are not to be found in any other European country. The present study provides an estimate of the yield, both in monetary and real terms, of the financial savings of Households from 1964 to 1976 and of the loss of wealth suffered by it as a result.
