Abstract

The work seeks to forecast future developments in the United Kingdom economy by identifying some of the more significant and influential factors operating now or likely to be relevant in the years ahead. It is maintained that unless the most highly industrialised countries in the world do bring inflation under control, there will be a major financial and economic crash. Furthermore, it is assumed that there will be continuing pressure on the balance of payments. The author attempts to establish the kind of economic climate likely to be found in Britain over the next 10 to 20 years, beginning with expectations regarding the continuance of inflation.
