Abstract

The work deals with the relationship between inflation and employment and highlights the common mistake of using the term “inflation” to mean “price increases”. With regard to the economically relevant variables, a lack of specification concerning the kind of inflation is mischievous. The author distinguishes between nine different types of inflation and discusses the roles which some of them may play in the processes that result in changes of employment and unemployment. Emphasis is placed on the different rates per time and on the different time lags with which the different inflations proceed.
