The paper provides analysis on the marked variations shown during the period 1936-1946 in the credits granted by the Italian Banking Institutes in favour of the various sections of the economic activity in the country. This analysis, based on statistical material published by the Bank of Italy in September, 1947, may offer useful data for the study of the main vicissitudes in Italian business activity during the last turbulent decade.
