A recollection of the interdisciplinary activities at the CISB Centre.

Abstract

The scientific world has the clear perception that an interdisciplinary approach is needed for attacking themany yet unsolved problems of today Science. This attitude has several roots, including the search of biologists forquantitative foundations, of physicists for better methodological approaches to mesoscopic systems and of engineers forhighlighting the practical importance of such a complicated problems/solutions network.On these grounds, the present Symposium has been characterized by intense discussion and exchange of ideas amongpeople with different scientific background, who had the opportunity to experience the genuine interdisciplinary spirit ofthe former C.I.S.B.. Our aim is to stimulate the renewal of such a spirit in quite different environments, and to acknowledge its intrinsic and context-independent value.
