Abstract

RÉSUMÉ - Diplomate, écrivain, poète, Roberto Ducci (1914-1985) représente ici l’état de la ‘carrière’ pendant les dernières décennies du Royaume d’Italie. Les habitants du Palais Chigi, dont l’origine était aristocratique ou riche bourgeoise, traversèrent l’époque du fascisme tout en gardant leur fidélité traditionnelle au roi. L’Auteur explique les raisons et la manière par lesquelles cette bureaucratie spéciale réussit à ne pas être marquée par le fascisme, en dépit du fait que Mussolini essayait, de temps en temps, de l’assujettir. Dans une synthèse rapide et magistrale, il souligne aussi les mérites et les culpabilités de la diplomatie italienne depuis les années de la Droite Historique jusqu’à la guerre où la couronne perdit tout ce qu’elle avait accumulé pendant des siècles. ABSTRACT - Diplomat, writer, poet, Roberto Ducci (1914-1985) represents here the state of the ‘career’ during the last decades of the Kingdom of Italy. The inhabitants of Palazzo Chigi, who belonged to the aristocracy or the wealthy middle-class, went through the fascist era sticking to their traditional feelings of allegiance to the crown. The Author explains the reasons and the way a distant position from the régime was held by this special burocracy and how, from time to time, Mussolini tried to convert it to fascism. In a rapid, masterly synthesis he also stresses credits and guilts of Italian diplomacy from the years of the Historical Right to the war where the crown lost everything it had accumulated in centuries.
