Winston Churchill dal nazionalimperialismo all’occidentalismo attraverso l’europeismo (1930-1957)

Abstract

ABSTRACT - Winston Churchill supported British imperialism till February 1930 and that was the reason why he interlaced excellent relations with Mussolini, the founder and champion of integral colonialism. It was a great surprise for everybody when, in 1930, he supported the theory of the European union even in federal form, but he made clear that the United Kingdom should not take part in it. After taking a position against all forms of national imperialism, Churchill declared war to colonialism for damaging not only peoples of European civilisation, but also all extra-European peoples protected by the League of Nations. After the defeat of fascism, Churchill perceived the communist ideology and the expansionism of the Urss as the major threats against the European civilisation founded on Habeas corpus, and suggested to build a permanent alliance between the Euroatlantic peoples based on their common Christian values more than on armed forces. RÉSUMÉ - En février 1930, par surprise, Winston Churchill, qui jusque-là avait défendu l’impérialisme britannique et établi de très bons rapports avec Mussolini, fondateur et champion du colonialisme intégral, proposa la thèse d’une union européenne étendue jusqu’à la formule fédéraliste, à laquelle cependant la Grande-Bretagne n’aurait pas dû participer. À partir de cette prise de position, Churchill déclara la guerre contre toutes formes de nationalimpérialisme prétendant coloniser soit les peuples de civilisation européenne que les peuples de civilisation différente. Après la débâcle du fascisme international, Churchill perçut comme un danger pour la civilisation européenne, fondée sur l’Habeas corpus, l’idéologie communiste et l’expansion de la Russie de Staline et c’est pour cela qu’il proposa une alliance euroatlantique permanente, fondée plutôt sur la base commune des valeurs chrétiens que sur des forces armées
