Abstract

ABSTRACT - The Vatican policy has always had the primary aim to protect the Christian communities and the Holy Places of the Middle East. The growth of religious radicalism in the whole region and the immigration of a large Muslim community in Europe have changed the context into which the Vatican policy had been developed. The need to elaborate a new strategy is the object of this article, that underlines the connections between diplomatic activity and interreligious dialogue on the one hand and the new links between Middle East and Mediterranean policy of the Holy See on the other hand. RÉSUMÉ - La politique du Saint Siège au Moyen Orient a toujours visé principalement à protéger les communautés chrétiennes et les lieux saints. La croissance du radicalisme religieux dans toute la région et l’immigration massive de population musulmane en Europe ont changé le contexte dans lequel la politique vaticane a évolué. L’article traite de la nouvelle stratégie qui a été élaborée par le Saint Siège et souligne les connexions existantes, dans cette stratégie, entre activité diplomatique et dialogue interreligieux d’un côté et nouveaux liens entre politique moyen-orientale et politique méditerranéenne de l’autre.
