Abstract

From participatory mapping to crowdmapping. VGI as a tool for participation and active citizenship
The rapid evolution of digital mapping technology made the production of
geographic information and cartographic representations produced by non-expert users widespread. On one hand, this innovation opens the way for a potential democratisation of geographic information, on the other poses major challenges related to the quality of data, the access to technology and information, and the use that of these tools can make public policy and spatial planning. This paper proposes theoretical and practical reflections on these issues, starting from the experiences underway in Turin around the platform First Life.

L’évolution rapide de la technologie de cartographie numérique a augmenté la production de l’information géographique et des représentations cartographiques produites par des utilisateurs non experts. D’une part, cette innovation ouvre la voie à une démocratisation potentielle de l’information géographique, de l’autre pose des défis majeurs liés à la qualité des données, l’accès à la technologie et de
l’information, et l’utilisation que de ces outils peuvent faire la politique publique et l’aménagement du territoire. Cet article propose des réflexions théoriques et pratiques sur ces questions, à partir des expériences en cours à Turin autour de la plate-forme First Life.
