Abstract

The article, largely focused on cases related to Liguria (NW Italy), approach historical photography as source of information for landscape history. In particular, it’s focuses on the archives dedicated to historical photography preservation and on its role for the production of territorial knowledge. The first section provides a brief overview on the “social network” and on the main conceptual content that, from the seventies, led the formation of the principal Italian’s photographic archives. The second section attempts to unravel the role of Genoa’s municipal photographic archive (founded in 1910) for the cultural interpretation of images produced by the great German photographer Alfred Noack (1833-1895). The third paragraph only wants to enrich, through a brief episode, the historical debate on the relationship between geography and photography.

L'article envisage le sujet de la photographie historique comme source
pour l’histoire du paysage; en particulier, il se concentre sur les archives dédiées à la conservation du patrimoine photographiquehistorique et sur l’importance de ce patrimoine pour l'étude des transformations territoriales et paysagères. La première section donne un bref aperçu sur le “réseau social“ et sur le principal contenu conceptuel qui, à partir des années soixante-dix, a conduit à la formation des majeures archives photographiques italiennes. En prenant comme cas d’étude la Ligurie (NO d'Italie), la deuxième section essaye de démêler le rôle des archives photographiques
municipales de Gênes (fondées en 1910) à fin de l'interprétation
des images produites par le photographe allemand Alfred Noack (1833- 1895). Enfin, la troisième section se propose d'enrichir, grâce à un bref épisode, le débat historique sur les liaisons entre la géographie et la photographie.
