Abstract

Tourism communication in the time of coronavirus


Covid-19 has radically transformed tourism and it will continue to affect it at least until a vaccine is available. It is necessary
to rethink communication approaches in this new regime of uncertainty and it is necessary to equip ourselves with the new
skills required by the new particular situation of the coronavirus. Those skills answer the new fundamental questions relating
to the forces of change linked to this extremely complex phenomenon: evolution of the pandemic, narration of the media
system, motivational drivers and deterrent drivers of tourists and the ability to redesign new relevant and meaningful tourist
experiences by the territories and tourism actors. In addition, a quick partial analysis of the communication of some Italian
regions after the lockdown due to the coronavirus describes in a qualitative way the communication themes of summer
2020.
