Il problema del «coqueo»: interpretazioni tradizionali ed esame analitico delle prospettive
Abstract
This article examines a variety of theories that have been formulated to account for the origins, causes and effects of the practice of coqueo in the central Andes. An historical and interdisciplinary comparison of the various theses is the basis for the author's explanation of the often irreconcilable differences in judgement that have been expressed in the matter: some theories have tried to provide scientific justification for the need to abolish the practice of coqueo, while others have sought out the medical, economic, and social bases that explain rather than condemn the practice.
