Abstract

Based on our recent observations in Central Italy we show evidence for root sprouting and subsequent capacity of clonal growth in Fagus sylvatica L. The typology of resprouting in this species is still unclear according to the existing literature. We review Italian, European and global sources and discuss our finding in the light of environmental factors and genetic differences.
