PERIODICO di MINERALOGIA

Periodico di Mineralogia is a international peer-reviewed Open Access journal publishing original research in MineralogyCrystallographyGeochemistryOre DepositsPetrologyVolcanology and applied topics on EnvironmentArchaeometry and Cultural Heritage. Articles are published under a Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International CC BY license. The journal does not have article submission and processing charges. Colour is free of charge and no Open Access fees are requested.

Submission
Submission of manuscripts must be undertaken through the rosa.uniroma1.it/periodico_di_mineralogia web site. The journal uses Open Journal Systems (OJS), which is an open source journal management and publishing software developed, supported, and freely distributed by the Public Knowledge Project under the GNU General Public License.
Periodico di Mineralogia accepts for publication Research Articles, Letters, and Reviews, as well as Comments and Responses on papers previously published by the journal.
Research Articles should report original results of significant interest for the scientific community. Experimental methods and data are expected to be described in detail, possibly by partial submission as Supplementary Information, as well as the results should be discussed thoroughly as the journal does not impose limits on word count or page number.
Letters are identified as a rapid and efficient tool for showing to the scientific community preliminary data of relevant importance in a short form. It is expected that the Cover Letter will clearly explain the reason(s) for such a fast, short publication that, however, will be handled as a regular article with a more rapid review process. Ideally, Letters should not exceed three printed pages in length (approximately 15,000 characters including spaces) and should contain no more than a total of four display items (figures and/or tables).
Reviews are supposed to deal with relevant topics of broad interest. Authors are encouraged to submit a short proposal to the Section Editor for a preliminary consideration. Upon acceptance, the leading author will be invited to submit a short biography (under 200 words), which could be accompanied by a photograph.
Comments and Responses should be concise (under 1,500 words) reporting discussion of core aspects of the original paper, which should have been published within the previous 12 months. Comments and Responses will be considered for publication only if they impact significantly on the interpretation of results presented by the original paper.
Each submission (including Letters, Reviews, Comments and Responses) will be addressed, via the OJS management and publishing system, to one of the following Sections of the journal:

- Mineralogy and Crystallography
- Geochemistry
- Archaeometry and Cultural Heritage
- Ore Deposits and Environment
- Petrology
- Volcanology

Submission of a Research Article is understood that the manuscript, in all its parts, is original and not currently being considered for publication elsewhere. Papers must be written in English, using British spelling conventions. There are not page limitations on the length of Original Articles and Reviews, as well as on the number of tables and illustrations.
During the on-line submission process, two .pdf files must be uploaded: the first including the main body of the article, figures, and tables; the second containing the Cover Letter and the list of the four suggested reviewers.
In the case of a request of revision of the manuscript by the reviewers, authors must resubmit the modified version of the manuscript within 2 months. After this time frame failure to resubmit a revised version of the manuscript will result in a rejection of the paper.
After acceptance of the manuscript, the authors will be requested to submit the main body of the article as a Microsoft Word .doc/.docx file, figures as .tiff/.jpg files (a separate file for each figure), and tables as Microsoft Word .doc/.docx or Excel .xls/.xlsx files (a separate file for each table). Please note that after acceptance, modifications will no longer be possible and only very minor text changes will be accepted without submitting the paper to a further round of revisions.
During the on-line submission procedure, the authors will be requested to fill a Competing Interest declaration required to disclose potential conflicts of interest (financial, personal, etc.) that could inappropriately influence the review process.
The manuscript must be formatted as a double-spaced text with page numbers. Line numbering is also recommended. Times New Roman font, size 12, is required. Greek characters must be represented using Symbol fonts.
The parts of the manuscript should appear in the following order:

- Title
- Running title
- Author(s) and affiliation(s)
- Abstract
- Keywords
- Body of paper
- Acknowledgements
- List of references
- Figure captions

Abstract, key words and body of paper

All contents must be typed in small letters. The abstract must be under 1,300 characters (excluding spaces) and not include citations and subheadings; it should include important data (e.g., chemical, structural, thermodynamic data, temperature range, isotope range, etc.).
Keywords (no more than six) must be typed in small letters and separated by semicolons.
Appropriate headings are used to break the text into sections. Up to four subheadings levels are permitted but they must not be numbered. SECTIONS HEADING are left-justified, capital and bold; subsections are left-justified and bold; third order headings are left-justified and italics; fourth-order headings are left-justified and plain. It is recommended the author(s) do not use small capital and italics (except for flora and fauna) throughout the text. The use of footnotes is not permitted.
For the body of paper there are not explicit requirements for the section organization. However, a well-organized manuscript should include the following sections:

- Introduction
- Experimental
- Results
- Discussion
- Conclusions
The author(s) may also combine sections in order to improve the overall quality of the manuscript.

Acknowledgements
This section should be concise and include funding details.

List of references
All references quoted in the text, tables and figures or other parts of the paper, must be included in the list of references that will be arranged in alphabetical order following the surname of the first Author. In the case of multiple Authors, the list of references will be arranged following the further Authors; in the case of identical numbers of Authors, the different citations will be listed by year.
Typing the list of references please don’t use any particular format (as small capitals).
The references listed below should be used as examples:
