Rural industrialisation in later developed countries: the case of Northeast and Central Italy

The article deals with some specific characteristics of industrialised countries of later development, taking Italy as an example. It focuses on the relatively large proportion of the population living in rural areas, compared to countries of earlier industrialisation, and the high proportion of small enterprises and self-employed workers. The cases of the Italian North-Eastern and Central regions is considered in detail.
