The work deals with the reform of the International monetary system, the end result of four years of laborious negotiations. The author agrees with the majority of commentators that relatively little has been accomplished. He differs from them, however, in two major respects. The first regards the evaluation of the limited results. The second regards the direction in which, under the circumstances, efforts could have been more profitably directed. General comments are provided on both of these points. Then, proposals which concern chiefly the monetary system, but also cover the international financial system, are outlined.
