Abstract

The work deals with Keynesian analysis in relationship to Italian economic problems, particularly those of inflation and unemployment. The author first shoes how an appropriately broadened Keynesian analysis can be applied to the Italian economy, as well as to the British or American ones, and to the economic problems of 1957, as well as to those of 1933. However, he then indicates what may be a fundamental deficiency of this broadened model when applied to problems like the current ones in Italy. To escape this difficulty, the analysis can be still further enlarged. The resulting framework, however, may no longer be recognisable as Keynesian. In conclusion, the author argues for the need of economic analysis which is oriented toward economic policy - one intended to meet the needs of those who are charged with advancing the objectives of society by the design of appropriate actions - whether this be Keynesian or not.
