Musulmani in Italia: elementi di demografia

Abstract

The question of the Muslim presence is everywhere in the West a topic of heated political and social discussion and anti-Islamic sentiment appears to be constantly growing, and Italy ranks among the first European countries for the highest level of Islamophobia. In this context, there are many politicians who claim that we are facing an "Islamic invasion", a theory often promoted by some national media. The aim of this article is therefore to propose scientific data on the real Muslim presence in Italy, produced by various scholars over the years, in order to avoid that the public debate on this issue is influenced by emotional aspects or by one's own perception, instead of the real data.
