Grigore Silași was the first Romanian professor at the Royal Hungarian University from Cluj/ Kolozsvár, a city situated in the multi-ethnic region of Transylvania. This study proposes an analysis of the linguistic nationalism of Grigore Silași (professor of Romanian language and literature between 1872 and 1884) in the cultural, ideological, academic and political context of Transylvania of his time, as well as a comparison between his vision of language and that of his Hungarian colleagues, who shared the same nationalist perspective.Downloads
