Abstract

This paper is dedicated to the life and works of Alexandru Niculescu, who passed away on December 22, 2024. Niculescu was an esteemed linguist, philologist, and poetologist who taught in several European universities from Bucharest, Vienna, Padua, Paris, and Udine. Being an opponent of the communist regime and the dictatorship of Ceaușescu, Niculescu abandoned Romania in 1985, choosing the path of exile. Niculescu was also a great promoter of Romanian Studies in Italy. The paper illustrates various aspects of Niculescu’s scientific work, in particular those regarding contacts with Italian history and culture.
