El uso de las parias como elemento propagandístico durante el siglo XI: las donaciones a la Iglesia

Abstract

The aim of this article is to analyze how the paria payments received by the Christian kingdoms from Muslims during the 11th century were invested in donations to the Church. We have analyzed the kingdoms of Navarra, Aragon and Castile as well as the Catalan Counties in order to observe in which religious institutions this money was invested and for what purpose. In conclusion, a substantial part of the payments of outcasts were spent in the Church with a propaganda and legitimizing purpose in all the studied territories, also trying to collaborate in the formation of an ecclesial structure subject to political power.
