Abstract

The essay is a reflection on the theme of the unity of Italy in medieval history behind Dante and comes to the conclusion that the thirteenth century represented an important moment for the construction of a political relationship between the various parts of Italy, felt as necessary and inevitable, and for a corresponding wide cultural circulation, tested and nourished by the emerging literature in the Italian language.
