Abstract

The aim of the research is an introduction to a page of the Italian Risorgimento read by the police forces side in the surveillance and neutralization of potentially subversive interference by religious extremist areas. The timeframe takes under historical analysis starts from the Breccia di Porta Pia to the political elections of 1870 and is calibrated on the modern social historiographical trends: the "short history" interpretation. This approach aims to the focusing the events in detail, favoring scientific analysis and systematic archival research. The study is enriched by a prosopography work of the institutional protagonists of the city. Finally, is denoted the role of the police forces aimed at protecting the interest of the State from any internal religious threats.
