Abstract
The new curriculum studiorum of medicine approved by Pope Leo XII in 1824 introduced the study of General Pathology. A century later a new building was destinated to this field, when Guido Vernoni was nominated professor, following Amico Bignami, pupil of Marchiafava and working on malaria, with a mor-phological approach. Vernoni shifted his attention on diseases as patophisiological concatenation of events, evolving to the study of biochemical and molecular findings.
