Abstract

  Through the analysis of a quotation from A. Gellius at the beginning of the long prologue of Burton's Anatomy of Melancholy (p. 19) and of the brief Latin letter at its end (p. 114) this article highlights the author’s satirical perspective and the relationship he intends to establish with his readers.
