Abstract
During the XIXth century, the fast growth of medical knowledges, leading to the acquisition of ripe and complex competences, demand medicine to define specific topics of interest and study. The article deals with the history of the rise and development of medical specialties, pointing a special attention to the birth of a new medical methodology and to the invention of clinical instruments between London, Paris and Wien.
