Maksim Nevzorov, The Friend of the Youth

Authors

Abstract

Today Nevzorov is remembered primarily for The Friend of Youth and [the People] of All Ages, which was the main forum for the promotion of his views. His primary concern was the advancement of his Christian views particularly among young people as a means of educating members of families and upright citizens. One of the ways chosen was the presentation of biographies of exemplary historical figures, but also those of individuals who served as counterexamples. The most illustrious of these was Napoleon, whose behaviour as a political vision was sharply criticised by Nevzorov in the book dedicated to him. Nevzorov was educated by the Moscow Rosicrucians, members of Novikov's circle, who saw Freemasonry as a place for spiritual renewal through the pure form of Christianity.
