Abstract

The Role of the Italian Army in the Fiume Enterprise Through the Analysis of the Report on the events in Fiume by Army General  Pecori Giraldi.

The article focuses on the analysis of a document preserved at the Archivio dell’Ufficio Storico dello Stato Maggiore dell’Esercito (AUSSME), an investigation written by General Guglielmo Pecori Giraldi between September and December 1919: the Report on the events in Fiume by Army General Pecori Giraldi.
Observations and disciplinary proposals to the Minister of War. The report was commissioned by the Extraordinary Commissioner of Venezia Giulia, Pietro Badoglio, in order to highlight the collusion and involvement of the Italian Army with regard to Gabriele d’Annunzio’s enterprise. The article aims to offer a critical analysis of the aforementioned source about the Adriatic sedition, examining it in the light of the context in which it was produced and in comparison with other documents, focusing on the points  where convergences or contradictions emerge most clearly.
