Abstract

This work involves the application of mathematical flow and transport models for groundwater in the study of an oil polluted site situated in the city of St. Petersburg. The study has been developed in three principal phases:• data collection and interpretation using Geographical Information Systems and database;• conceptual model elaboration using geostatistical analysis; • mathematical flow and transport model implementation.The flow model has been calibrated considering the different head value measured in wells situated in the study area. Considering the absence of any qualitative and quantitative chemical analysis, the transport model has not been calibrated on real data.The flow field has been simulated with a lower error level (5%) and indicates considerable interaction between the aquifers considered.The transport model has been applied with advective-dispersive mechanism and degradation and sorption reactions, and it has provided valid hypotheses for the extent of pollution and the contaminant path and evolution.
