Abstract

Exanthidium Pasteels, 1969 is today recognised as a subgenus of the genus Pseudoanthidium which comprises a small number of little-known species distributed between the Atlantic coast and Central Asia. The taxonomic status is reviewed and the members of the subgenus are here presented for the first time with photographs and line drawings illustrating the specific distinguishing characters. An identification key and distribution maps are given. A new species, Pseudoanthidium (Exanthidium) deserticolum sp. n. is described from Saudi Arabia. It is close to P. (E.) wahrmanicum which is found in the southern Levant and the Algerian Sahara.
