Abstract

A journey, a long journey migrants have to travel - without end; it winds in many directions, inward and outward, material and spiritual, by sea and in their souls. A soul divided between the urge to undertake the journey and the need to find rest at home. Must they accept their destiny or look for a new one? Migrants feel the need to maintain connections with their home country, at the same time, they want to build a home in their new land.
What is the role of Public Television in this context, with an audience
composed of migrants of second, third or even fourth generation?
Without doubt, it is a very complex role that, through articulated programming based on information, culture, and entertainment, guides
them through that long and difficult journey. This must be built upon a positive relationship and constant attention to every feedback, expressed or not expressed, that requires expert professional care and - in steady connection with the life of our migrants - the ability to look beyond the border.

C’est un voyage. Un long voyage – un voyage sans fin - celui que les
émigrants sont appelés à faire.
Il se déroule sur une double voie, une voie interne et une autre externe.
Une voie matérielle et une autre spirituelle, maritime et mentale. L’émigrant vit en perpétuelle dichotomie, pris entre le besoin de partir et
celui de s’enraciner, d’accepter son propre destin ou de s’en chercher un
autre, entre le besoin de maintenir des liens avec son pays d’origine et la
nécessité de se construire une nouvelle territorialité dans le pays d’accueil. Dans ce cadre de référence, pour nos compatriotes émigrés de la première, deuxième, troisième et quatrième génération qui vivent à  ’étranger, quelle est la mission de la télévision publique, de Rai International? Une mission d’accompagnement dans leur double voyage intérieur et matériel assurément complexe réalisée grâce à une programmation variée faite d’informations, d’approfondissements et d’entretiens.
