Abstract

The commitment to environmental protection from a gender perspective can be determined by a number of individual and contextual factors, in which cultural, social and geographical aspects can play a decisive role. The existing literature suggests substantial differences in environmental perceptions and behaviour between men and women. Some studies indicate that women may be slightly more inclined to support sustainable practices and behaviours in everyday life. This could be attributed to various factors, including greater social awareness, family responsibility and involvement in community issues. At all latitudes, there is a diverse involvement in environmental policies, with a prevalence of male decision-makers, albeit in varying proportions.

This study aims to offer a multidisciplinary overview, with particular emphasis on the gender issue in international policies, especially in the “South” of the world, In both general and specific terms, the current ecological crisis and climate change are of concern.. This paper will demonstrate how the involvement of female potential could lead to greater effectiveness in mitigating and containing environmental phenomena. Finally, the most recent literature on queer social implications and the psychic discomfort known as eco-anxiety will be analysed.
