Abstract

How were Balkan identities were built in modern Era? The Polish historiography has recently attempted to provide interesting answers to a crucial question for understanding the modern age in the Balkans. Historians examined the contribution to the identity-building of the so-called Balkan circle of the 'Slavia Orthodoxa'. Overall, the considerable Polish historiographical commitment in the analysis of identity-building in the Balkans, the result of the multidisciplinary meeting carried out in the Balkan talks opens up new research perspectives on the modern age. The Warsaw Balkan studies combine traditional diplomatic history with research into linguistics, historical ethnography, cultural studies and economic and social history.
