The Slavonic translation of the Bolle delli Beatissimi Pontefici (Venice 1762) and ethno-confessional relations in the Serenissima in the 18th century
Abstract
This work examines a unique, quadrilingual edition published in Venice in 1762, a period when the Stato da Mar was considerably contracted. It aims to retrace and frame several developments in the relationships between the Republic of Venice and Orthodox Christians, who constituted the prominent religious minority in its territories. Furthermore, the work attempts to underscore certain aspects that distinguish the religious policies applied by the Serenissima to minorities in contrast to other contemporary political contexts and discusses the influences of those policies on the political events of the time.Downloads
