Abstract

For almost half a century the expressive forms of hip hop have continued to be widespread throughout the ecumene. Although rap has become a commercial musical genre, it still remains surprisingly a practice of self-enhancement of the youngsters in deprived neighbourhoods, especially of big cities. The article proposes a comparison between two contemporary rap scenes in Milan and Rome. The first is considered significant for its being “on the street”, the second with respect to the new developments of militant rap. Object of analysis will be the rap / trap expressive forms of social actors who, rooted in a territory, an urban periphery, make the practices implemented in it the central theme of their rhyming speech.
