Tra incertezze e disorientamento
Dal presentismo all'Antropocene

The essay reads the contemporary conjuncture as a double regime of uncertainty – political-media and temporal – intensified by continuous news and social platforms. With the decline of the modern, future-oriented regime of historicity, presentism produces a “Babylon” of the instant, fragments social rhythms, and turns planning into a provisional device governed by urgency. Yet the emergence of the Anthropocene bursts the presentist bubble, forcing encounters with vast Earth timescales and with a future that returns mainly as threat (thresholds, tipping points, irreversibility, extinction). Hartog argues for mapping the entanglement of world and planetary temporalities and for adding a planetary regime of historicity, as groundwork for a new cosmo-history and cosmopolitics.
