This paper examines the italian distribution of Farewell to Arms (second feature film adaptation of Ernest Hemingway’s 1929 novel, produced by David O. Selznick in 1957) with particular reference to its critical response and censorship. The analysis explores the role of the movie in Hemingway’s film adaptation by confronting the two versions of 1932 (Franz Borzage) and 1957 (Charles Vidor); further on, it discusses Selznick's production within the great literary kolossal of the time, assuming its magnioquence as reason for its scarce critical and public successReferences
