Politicians have been starting to inhabits social network platforms in order to construct their public image and to give a contribution in directing the political debates in peer to peer contexts.
Their social media presence generates a contamination between the languages of politics and the more dynamic, less structured and unconventional ones, typical of the platforms: from great ideological themes to more personal and personalistic contents, without losing rhetoric and propaganda power.
In this paper we would like to go into depth on the practices of constructing a political storytelling by sharing images, in order to focus our attention on the construction of a relation between politicians and their voters. We’ll propose the qualitative content analysis of visual contents shared on Instagram by four European Prime Ministers, comparing their communicative styles, tones of voice and strategical use of the pictures.
